Not all watches are created equal. Even in the affordable luxury space, quality varies. Here's what to check before you buy.
1. Weight
A quality watch should feel substantial. Cheap watches feel hollow and light. At DAIM, our customers consistently mention weight in their reviews – "Weight bhi boht acha hai" is one of our most common compliments.
2. Strap Material
-
Metal bracelets: Should feel smooth, not sharp. Links should move easily.
-
Leather straps: Should be soft, not plasticky. Stitching should be even.
-
Rubber straps: Should be flexible, not stiff. Hublot-style rubber straps should feel premium.
3. Dial Clarity
Check the printing. On a quality watch, text and indices should be sharp – not blurry or misaligned. The date window (if present) should be centered.
4. Movement (The ticking)
-
Quartz (battery): Second hand should tick once per second, landing exactly on the markers.
-
Automatic (mechanical): Second hand should sweep smoothly. You may hear a soft rotor sound when you move the watch.
5. Water Resistance Claim
Most affordable watches are splash-resistant only. Don't swim with them. But the case back should be screwed down tight (not loose).
